Let’s get one thing crystal clear: your time is valuable. It’s your most precious resource, and once it’s gone, you can never get it back. Yet, some clients seem to think your time is theirs to command, expecting 24/7 availability, demanding last-minute changes, and generally treating your schedule with complete disregard.
They expect you to answer emails at 3 AM, drop everything to address their “urgent” requests, and work through weekends to meet their arbitrary deadlines. They’re essentially treating you like a robot, available to serve their needs at any hour of the day. They don’t understand, that if their business comes at the risk of your sanity, then it’s not a sustainable business relationship.
And you need to stand up for yourself.
The need to establish a boundary can help prevent burnout and help you have what you need. If not, you’ll eventually start to hate your job, your clients, and yourself.
Here are the traits of the time thieves
- Do not respect schedules and constantly think that it is okay to change it
- They do not follow what has been planned, and will just make decisions willy nilly
- Make demands last second
The need for being safe and happy is the most important.
It is important to recognize that these can occur during certain instances, but it should not be something that is habitual.
What can be done to make it better.
- Understand what your worth is so you may dictate terms.
Here I wanted to say that it can be good, and the best so far.
This is very important because I have had clients say that it will be worth 10,000 at the end, but can not even follow through.
You first want to set the tone so that it will set the stage.
- What are the actual hours to call and to ask?
- What are the after hours fees and all the things that need to be done?
These actions require a firm hand, and strong belief.

Story of Akash A great and talented marketing expert who has everything to do what it takes to get a great result. He gets a call and has to do that no matter what is being tasked.
To make this so he has to stop his daily life and work. The sad part is that that will take so much. In the end his schedule is all gone and his life gets in the way. He had lost the opportunity to spend time, just relaxing with his family.
This all could have been prevented.
Now the story of Priya The amazing and all powerful designer. She gets asked for tasks and is asked to do way more than is necessary. She can’t say no and is being so drained with everything. In the end with no time for herself she is starting to resent her clients and her skillset.
She had nothing planned and just ended up taking the best possible offer and it was still not enough.
Then there’s Samjana The all powerful accountant who was asked if she can take on even more clients. What she must understand is that she is a human being and should care for herself, so to understand why she needs to take time and to see why all are true. She now needs to work hard to ensure that these needs must be taken care of as all is required to do what is there and to help.
She is doing her best, what would you say was good and what had to change was what must be said? What will you do that helps?
These stories need to understand that these freelancers are what they are to the core, and are willing to do what it must be done for them.
So what you need to learn is to be well with what comes to be.
What to do when all does not work out
You have to then change it up! It needs to change right then.

Have you had a friend or family member not treat your time as their own? This can also help.
Here are what needs to happen
- Set firm boundaries
- Communicate expectations
- Charge a premium
If these 3 are not followed, you may find that your business, will be what you want.
These must go, that’s important for your mental health.
