Making Money Online Was Never Hard

I remember sitting in my small home office, laptop open, staring at a blank screen with the words “Make Money Online” glowing back at me. It felt like a mystery, a puzzle with missing pieces. I spent hours reading articles, watching YouTube videos, and scrolling through forums, each promising that making money online was both easy and elusive—at the same time.

Fast forward to today, and I can confidently say this: Making money online was never hard. We just make it hard ourselves. The challenge doesn’t come from the opportunities—it comes from the mindset we carry and the way we complicate things unnecessarily. Let me break down how we’ve been sabotaging ourselves all along, and more importantly, how to get out of our own way.

    The Misleading Complexity We Create

The internet is filled with success stories: people earning millions from YouTube, bloggers raking in cash through affiliate marketing, dropshipping stores turning average folks into overnight entrepreneurs. We read these stories and think, “Why not me?” And that’s a valid question.

But then something strange happens. Instead of just diving in and trying things out, we start overthinking. We research to the point of paralysis, sign up for too many webinars, and take endless notes. It’s as if we’re waiting for the “perfect” moment or some magical formula to fall into our laps.

Here’s the truth: There is no perfect moment. There is no secret formula. The people making money online weren’t handed some hidden knowledge—they just started doing. They took risks, tried things, failed, learned, and moved on. Meanwhile, we’re sitting there still reading the 101st article on “How to Start a Blog.”

Let me tell you a story.

The Time I Tried Too Hard

A few years ago, I got into the world of affiliate marketing. I was excited because all these articles and gurus made it sound so simple. Pick a product, get a link, promote it, and voila! Cash flows in. Easy, right?

But instead of just starting small, I went into overdrive. I researched every affiliate platform, tried to understand the algorithms, optimized every little detail, and compared endless plugins to boost my website’s speed. I spent more time getting ready to get ready than actually promoting anything.

Months went by, and the income? Barely enough to buy a coffee. Why? Because I had overcomplicated the process. I got in my own way, thinking success was only for those who had every little piece figured out. I wasn’t taking action; I was hiding behind preparation.

Then one day, I stopped. I thought, “What if I just kept it simple?” So, I did. I picked one product, wrote an honest review about it, shared it with a few friends, and posted it on a forum. And guess what? It worked. Small money trickled in, but it was real money. The difference? I stopped making it hard.

Why We Make It Hard on Ourselves

Let’s be real for a second. Why do we overthink making money online? Why do we get lost in the sea of information and procrastination? It boils down to three key reasons:

    1. Fear of Failure

Fear is a powerful thing. The thought of putting yourself out there, trying something new, and potentially failing? It’s terrifying. So instead of facing that fear, we pile on more “research” as a safety net. We tell ourselves we’ll take action once we know everything—but that day never comes.

But here’s the twist: Failure is part of the process. Everyone who’s succeeded online has failed, probably multiple times. The difference between them and those who quit is that they didn’t let failure stop them. They learned from it, pivoted, and tried again.

    2. The Perfection Trap

How many times have you heard, “I’m waiting for the right time to start”? Or “I need to perfect my website first before launching”? This perfectionist mindset is a trap that keeps us from ever taking action. The reality is, perfection doesn’t exist, especially not online. The digital world is always changing, evolving, and if you wait for perfection, you’ll always be one step behind.

Instead of striving for perfect, aim for progress. Start where you are, with what you have, and improve as you go. That’s how real success happens. Think of it this way: if you wait for everything to be perfect, you’ll miss the chance to learn from the real-world experience that would actually make you better.

    3. Information Overload

The internet is both a blessing and a curse. It gives us endless information at our fingertips, but that can also become overwhelming. We spend hours, days, sometimes months consuming content about making money online but never put any of it into practice. We think the more we know, the better prepared we’ll be.

But here’s a little secret: Action is the best teacher. You don’t need to know everything to start. Pick one thing—just one—and give it a shot. The clarity you’re searching for will come through the doing, not the reading.

Simplifying the Path to Online Income

Now that we know why we make it hard on ourselves, let’s talk about how to simplify it. Because, honestly, making money online isn’t that complicated when you cut through the noise.

    1. Choose One Thing and Stick to It

The biggest mistake most of us make is jumping from one method to another. One day you’re excited about affiliate marketing, the next you’re setting up a dropshipping store, and by the end of the week, you’re thinking of launching an eBook. It’s exhausting!

Pick one thing, commit to it, and give it the time it needs to grow. Whether it’s freelancing, blogging, creating a YouTube channel, or selling digital products, focus on one thing at a time. Master it before moving on to the next shiny object.

    2. Take Imperfect Action

Waiting for perfection is a waste of time. The truth is, the first blog post you write, the first product you sell, or the first video you record? It’s probably not going to be amazing. And that’s okay. What matters is that you start. Imperfect action beats perfect procrastination every time.

Your website doesn’t need to be flawless. Your sales funnel doesn’t need to be optimized to the last pixel. Just start. Put something out there and refine it over time. You’ll learn far more by doing than by endlessly tweaking behind the scenes.

    3. Learn As You Go

Instead of trying to know everything upfront, adopt the mindset of learning as you go. Take action, make mistakes, and adjust along the way. The online world is dynamic, and things change quickly. The most successful online entrepreneurs are those who adapt, experiment, and learn on the fly.

I know people who made their first $100 with a basic website that looked like it came straight out of 2005. They didn’t wait to become experts—they just started, learned from their results, and improved. You don’t have to be an expert to make money online. You just need to start.

    The Success Mindset

At the end of the day, making money online is more about mindset than skillset. Sure, you need to know the basics, but you don’t need to be a genius to succeed. The key is believing that it’s possible, staying consistent, and not letting fear or perfection hold you back.

Let me share a quote that changed my perspective: “Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action.” You see, action is the missing piece. All the knowledge in the world won’t get you anywhere unless you’re willing to act on it.

    Final Thoughts

Making money online was never as hard as we make it out to be. We complicate things, drown ourselves in information, and let fear and perfectionism stand in our way. But the truth is, success comes from taking imperfect action, learning as you go, and keeping it simple.

So, if you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, waiting for the “right” time, or waiting until you know everything—stop waiting. Dive in, try things out, fail a little, and learn a lot. Because the only thing standing between you and making money online isn’t some complex strategy—it’s you.

It’s time to get out of your own way.
