Mahindra XUV 3XO Launches in Australia at Rs 4 Lakh Lower Price Than India
– In a strategic move to expand its global footprint, Mahindra & Mahindra has officially launched the XUV 3XO compact SUV in the Australian market, positioning it as the brand’s most affordable offering in the country. The vehicle carries a starting price of AUD 23,490 (approximately Rs 13.18 lakh), representing a significant Rs 4 lakh reduction compared to its Indian counterpart.
The homegrown automaker, which has established a strong presence in India’s SUV segment through popular models including the Scorpio, XUV700, Bolero, and the enthusiast-favorite Thar series, is now leveraging the XUV 3XO to strengthen its position in the competitive Australian compact SUV market.
Limited Variant Strategy for Australian Market
Unlike the comprehensive range available in India, Mahindra has adopted a focused approach for Australia, offering the XUV 3XO in just two variants: AX5 L and AX7 L. This streamlined portfolio strategy appears designed to simplify the buying process while maintaining the vehicle’s core appeal in the new market.
The Australian-spec model retains the same exterior design language as its Indian sibling, ensuring brand consistency across markets. However, buyers opting for the higher AX7 L variant will not have access to the Stealth Black color option, which remains exclusive to the Indian market.

Engine Configuration Tailored for Local Preferences
In a notable departure from the Indian specification, the Australian XUV 3XO will be powered exclusively by the 1.2-liter MPFi (Multi-Point Fuel Injection) turbo petrol engine. This means Australian customers will not have access to the more powerful 1.2-liter TGDi (Turbo Gasoline Direct Injection) engine or the 1.5-liter diesel option that are available in India.
The MPFi engine delivers 110 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque, providing adequate performance for the compact SUV segment while potentially offering better fuel efficiency – a consideration that may align with Australian consumer preferences.
Premium Features Retained
Despite the price reduction, Mahindra has ensured that the Australian XUV 3XO maintains its premium feature set. The vehicle comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), dual 10.25-inch screen setup, 360-degree camera system, and dual-zone climate control, among other amenities.
These features position the XUV 3XO to compete directly with established players in the Australian compact SUV segment, including the Mazda CX-3, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Stonic.

Market Context and Pricing Strategy
The XUV 3XO joins Mahindra’s existing Australian lineup, which includes the XUV700, Scorpio N, and S11 4X4 Pickup. This expansion demonstrates the company’s commitment to diversifying its product portfolio in the Australian market.
For perspective, the Indian market offers the XUV 3XO across a broader price spectrum, ranging from Rs 9.37 lakh to Rs 18.75 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), with three engine options catering to different customer preferences.
The Australian launch represents Mahindra’s calculated approach to international expansion, adapting its successful Indian formula to suit local market dynamics while maintaining the core attributes that have made the XUV 3XO popular in its home market.
This pricing strategy could prove instrumental in establishing a stronger foothold in the Australian compact SUV segment, where value-conscious consumers are increasingly seeking feature-rich alternatives to traditional offerings.
