The Indian electric vehicle sector has witnessed unprecedented growth, driven by expanding model portfolios and enhanced charging network development. Two automotive giants, Tata Motors and JSW MG Motor, have cemented their positions as market leaders, collectively securing six spots in the top 10 bestselling electric vehicles for the fiscal year 2025.
Market Dominance: Windsor EV Takes the Crown
JSW MG Motor’s Windsor EV emerged as the undisputed champion of India’s electric car segment, achieving remarkable sales figures of 19,394 units throughout FY2025. This premium electric vehicle, available from ₹13,99,800 (ex-showroom), offers an impressive driving range of up to 449 kilometers on a single charge. The Windsor EV’s success has significantly elevated JSW MG Motor’s market presence, overshadowing the company’s other electric offerings including the ZS EV and Comet EV variants.
Tata Motors: The Consistent Performer
Tata Motors demonstrated its electric vehicle prowess with the Punch.ev claiming the runner-up position, recording sales of 17,966 units between April 2024 and March 2025. This electric iteration of India’s second-most popular vehicle across all powertrain categories starts at ₹9,99,000 (ex-showroom) and provides a competitive range of up to 365 kilometers.
The automotive manufacturer’s commitment to electric mobility is further evidenced by the Tiago.ev’s third-place finish with 17,145 units sold. Positioned as one of India’s most budget-friendly electric hatchbacks, the Tiago.ev offers city commuters an accessible entry point into electric mobility at ₹7,99,000 (ex-showroom) with a practical range of up to 293 kilometers.
Tata’s electric SUV offering, the Nexon.ev, secured fourth position with 13,978 units delivered. This compact electric SUV, priced from ₹12,49,000 (ex-showroom) in its entry-level variant, boasts an impressive range of up to 489 kilometers, making it ideal for both urban and highway driving.

Unique Market Segments and Emerging Players
The MG Comet EV carved out a distinctive niche as India’s sole electric microcar option, achieving fifth place with 10,149 units sold during the April 2024-March 2025 period. This compact urban mobility solution, priced from ₹7,35,500 (ex-showroom), offers a practical range of up to 230 kilometers for city dwellers.
The remaining top 10 positions showcase the diversity of India’s electric vehicle landscape. Tata Motors’ Curvv.ev, representing the country’s first domestically manufactured electric SUV-coupe, found 7,534 buyers. The company’s veteran Tigor.ev, one of India’s pioneering electric vehicles since its 2019 launch, maintained relevance with 4,820 units sold.
JSW MG Motor’s ZS EV, the brand’s established electric model, contributed 7,042 units to the sales tally, while Mahindra & Mahindra made its mark with two offerings: the premium XEV 9e, currently India’s most expensive locally manufactured electric vehicle, sold 5,422 units, and the XUV400 found 4,843 customers.
